This intricate woven clutch is the ultimate talking point
Nature is a huge theme in Lulu’s work, with themes of Springtime, gardening and, of course, flowers. For SS24, birdlife is back on her creative radar with the arrival of The Birds Nest Bag - one of our newest Collectible styles.
This delicate piece is woven from natural rattan and angel hair vine, with the sweetest bird on top of the nest. Because there’s always an element of mischief, humour and surprise with Lulu bags, you’ll also discover a wooden egg hidden in the interior base.
But what was the thinking behind this dainty style? In the archive, there’s a previous bag that had the uncanny shape of a bird box. Then, of course, there are the famous Birdcage Collectibles – some of which will even tweet a song. Birds have definitely been a rich source of inspiration.
With The Birds Nest, it’s not inspired by the archive per se, but a new idea Lulu developed from an image she shared on Instagram of a bird in a nest on a tree (source @birdgrew). She could see the bag-shaped potential of this thing of natural beauty.
“To turn this inspiration into a bag, we used angel hair vine woven around a nest shaped form with a satin lid and a fabric bird with a tail made out of twigs sitting atop”, says our Senior Accessories Designer of the design process. “The wooden egg is the magical finishing touch!”
We hope you love this special piece as much as we do. It’s definitely one to treasure - and warrant a double take, which is always Lulu’s aim.
